Captain/ Chief of Security

Starting Salary is $83,445 Annually

The Southside Regional Jail is accepting applications for Captain (Chief of Security). The Chief of Security is responsible for the overall security of the facility. The minimum qualifications to be considered for this position are:

-Must have minimum of three (3) years experience at a supervisory level;

- A high school education with a strong commitment to professional development as evidenced by occupational training and/or college coursework;

-Progressive supervisory corrections experience to include significant experience as a Shift Commander in an adult facility;

-Must possess a valid driver's license to drive in the state of Virginia.

Records Manager (Sergeant)
Starting pay for the position is $68,385
The Southside Regional Jail is accepting applications for the position of Records Manager (Sergeant).
This position will remain open until filled.  Experience is preferred but will consider applicants without experience.  

The Records Manager is responsible for maintaining proper and accurate inmate records to include but not limited to committal forms, disposition forms, medical screening, account records and release forms.  The Records Manager will be responsible for calculating an inmate’s time to serve unless it is state time.  The Records Manager will also make deposits of inmate money and maintain the inmate account using proper accounting procedures.  The Records Manager will also make sure that when an inmate is being released to another jail or to the Department of Corrections (DOC) all paperwork is completed (release form; medical transfer; medicines, if applicable, jail credit form).    The Records Manager will be responsible for the Local Inmate Data System (LIDS) program.  The Records Manager will batch load inmate records to the Compensation Board on a weekly basis.  The Records Manager will be able to certify records to be accurate on LIDS and the Superintendent will approve these records.  The Records Manager is responsible for assuring that Illegal Alien Query (IAQ) checks are done and that LIDS is updated on all inmates not born in, or not citizens of the United States.  The Records Manager is responsible for staying in contact with the courts checking on paperwork for inmate files such as Circuit Court orders.

Assistant Superintendent (Lt. Col.)
Starting Pay $101,819 Annually

The Southside Regional Jail is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Superintendent.  Anyone wishing to apply must submit a completed Employment Application and resume to Lt. Col. The Minimum Qualifications to be considered for this position are:

Minimum five (5) years’ experience (at a supervisory level) in correctional operations with a public, private or military agency or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements;

Extensive experience in correctional institution management including considerable supervisory experience;
Interviews will be set after the December 30th closing date.

Employment with Southside Regional Jail

• Security Staff must be 18 years of age, and must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  
• Entry Level/ Uncertified Officer starting salary is $51,214.
  
• Certification Training paid by Southside Regional Jail
  
• There are rotating Day and Night Shifts. Work Schedule - 12 hour shifts
  
• 13 workdays and 1 paid Holiday per 28 day cycle.
  
• Annual leave and Sick leave accrued at 12 hours for each 28 day cycle.
  
• Paid employee health insurance; dependent coverage available at employee's expense.
  
• Retirement provided through Virginia Retirement System (VRS) with Law Enforcement Officers Supplement (LEOS). Employees are required to pay 5% of their monthly salary towards VRS retirement, Southside Regional Jail pays the rest.
  
• A physical exam is required on all new employees. Pre-employment drug testing is required with random drug testing throughout employment.
  
• Criminal Records and Driver's License Records will be checked on all new employees. All employees must have and maintain a valid Driver's license.
  
• All Southside Regional Jail employees must have and maintain a working telephone. A cellular telephone satisfies this requirement.
